Making Noise... Marines

There can't have been that many people who saw the Thousand Sons plastics and thought "I could make noise marines out of those."

I am one of such people.
The legs torso and backpack are all built as normal out of the box. With a bare head from any other marine kit. I prefer to stick with the more recent kits since the faces are better.

None of my noise addicts wear helmets. Why would you want something in the way of experiencing all that raw sensation?

That does mean I had to convert every single face to be cut and stretched differently. I only had two different types of bare head to work with and it'd be really noticeable if all my marines were twins..

The first few went together pretty well. It was all downhill from here.

The thing that initially made me think I could make noise marines out of this lot was the flamers with the demon bird heads. I figured they could make nice sonic blasters.

Cut of the tank and the little igniter nozzle.

I added a bit of plastic card to the front, this will act as a solid base for some GS. The little round disc on the gun casing will be a volume control turned all the way up to 11.

Time to attach the arms and shoulder pads (with a couple of scarabs filed off).

Some greenstuff scary faces and the sonic weapons start to look the part.

Added a stretched skin over the shoulder pad. For reasons.
Everything needs huge visible power cables in 40K.
Especially since I bought that cable maker tool.
... I wonder if they are related in some way.

The cable dissapears under the shoulder pad - where it probably connects to something important.

With some horrible bright pink and gaudy gold tims it starts to look alright.

And I'll leave you with the WIP blastmaster.

Iron warriors Praetor

I'm a bit late to the party but finally getting around to painting my Praetor Tribune I picked up like 6 months ago.

Some minor conversion work to turn the weird long handle paragon blade into a more brutal looking hammer and some replacement shoulder plates gives the model a very different aesthetic.

Still working on my trench mud basing.

Muzzle flashes

Many thousands of years ago I remember seeing a blister with pewter muzzle flashes. I have never seen them since, so I am beginning to think I imagined them.

Either way I thought they were kind of cool.

So I made my own.

Turned out alright. Could be better but could also could be worse. I am still unsure of my colours though.

And my object lighting could use a lot of work.

Tried some scaled up versions too.

Technology is hard.

I had to get a new phone. I might of accidentally completely destroyed my old old one in a black hole.

It happens, dont the judge me.

I figured I should work out if I can post from it. Maybe that will push my post frequency up from almost never?

In other news, I started painting Iron Warriors. This colour scheme might stick out of sheer ease of batch painting.

Though free handing skulls not so much.
Let's see how long this one lasts.

Burning down the heretics

Word Bearer's are doing well as my current favourite legion. (we'll see how long this one lasts)

While the glue on a big pile of tactical legionaries finishes drying I decided to try my hand to some of the Ashen Circle.

To those out of the know, the Ashen Circle are a Word Bearers specific formation who's job is to murder your culture. They are not nice people have have reasonable interesting rules.
What they don't have is nice models.

So I made some of my own out of spare scraps lying around.

They're okay. Still need to decide on a power weapons colour and a basing scheme. Then we can get back to spreading the primordial truth of Chaos to the unknowing galaxy.

Ghost Rider

My "local" GW is having it's 20th birthday this weekend. They are celebrating (No, not by playing classic games like Blood Bowl and Necromunda) with a series of mini games. One of which is a race based on bastardised Formula D rules.

To enter one needs a racer.

So I made one....

I have had a few things on the go at the moment. Here's a selection of the more interesting ones.

Chosen Chaos Space Marine.
(Note the lovely flayed skin tabard.)

The Space Hulk Blood Angel terminators still look good, even compared to the newer ones.

I am trying really hard to not start another marine army. Every now and again I accidentally paint a pre-heresy Emperors Children. Like this Praetor.

Another blast from the past: Warhound titan

A very long time ago (read maybe 18 months) when the moon was full and the something else ominous was doing whatever ominous thing it does, I built a warhound titan.

Alas it has long since been sold off. At a bring and buy very cheaply I might add. All that remains is one WIP photograph.

It was built using the ancient STC designs of the White Dwarf magazines "build your own Warhound titan" cardstock designs, a couple of packets of miliput and lots of ingenuity.

The WIP is at maybe the mid point with the corroded armour plates being made and the initial layer of rust being applied.

Unfortunately I don't think any photos of the finished titan exist.

Start on a high note.

Starting with a really old one.
Because it's good.
*cough*notjustbecauseIhaven'tgotanyrecentphotos*cough*

Many moons ago when the sun was warmer and dragons roamed the Earth. I was but a young Bel making my way through the steppes with naught but an axe, the skin of some fearsome beast for warmth and a chainmail bikini to eat.

Okay it was actually 2 years ago and I was living in Cardiff. Shut up it's my story.

On those barren and blasted post-apocalyptic plains I met a man. This man commissioned me to build for him a Chaos Space marine unlike any other.

While the actual details were up to me, it had to feature a Khorne berserker in a wheelchair. It was going to be a joke get well gift for his boss who had recently broken his leg.

And lo! This was lovingly crafted.
the client's boss plays World Eater Chaos Space Marines so I knew I'd be working with red, brass and skulls.
The chair it mostly made from layered sheets of plasticard made into a rough chair shape and then sanded smooth. The skulls on the back and arm rests are made using a stamp mould of a spare skull I had lying around. A few spikes from the chaos vehicle spikey bits sprue finished off the chair body. A pair of old ork big gun wheels finished of the ...well, the wheels..
You can only see the exhaust here but there is an engine built from a couple of spare ork bits strapped to that chair.

Hark at the painting from the days before I understood weathering, chipped paint or even how to paint half decent looking blood.

Last of all the leg cast is just good old green stuff. Patted with a bit of fabric to give it a nice texture.
I couldn't resist adding a little something extra to the cast.

Quite frankly, this is still one of my favourite commissions. I have learned a thing or two since then but it was fun to build, fun to paint and the client liked it. Would that they could all be this interesting.

If I had to do it again, I totally would. And I'd add more spikes.
